During the meeting the Minister D'Alema declared to be in favour of a European referendum on the Constitution. He added that Italy in the European Council will support the European Constitution together with the vanguard group that has already approved it.
The European Council talks will not be easy but Italia is not available to low profile compromise as Italian Prime Minister Romano Prodi announced in last speech in front of the European Parliament.
