Thousands protested in Prague against planned US base

May 26, 2007. Prague, Czech Republic

Several thousand protesters gathered in Prague during demonstration against planned US radar base in the Czech Republic. Protesters traveled from across the country and included people of all ages, backgrounds and political affiliations. The demonstration was organized by the “No to the Bases” initiative, which formed in July 2006 and actively opposes the US administration plan to build National Missile Defense (NMD) base in the Czech Republic.

Simply imagine how the US would react if Russia or China or Iran or in fact any foreign power dared even to think about placing a missile defense system at or near the borders of the US, let alone carrying out such plans. In these unimaginable circumstancse, a violent US reaction would be not only almost certain but also understandable. for reasons that are simple and clear.

European trade unions plan action in support of EU charter of fundamental rights

Trade union delegates from 36 European countries today backed a call by the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) to demonstrate, in view of the forthcoming EU Summit in Brussels on 21-22 June, for the European Charter of Fundamental Rights to be included as a legally binding part of any agreed treaty reform.

9 May 2007: Another Europe is possible! Let's build it from below.

50 years have been passed since the Rome Treaties signatures in 1957.

Now after half century we can say that functionalistic method is not more able to give sufficient fuel to finish the constituent process started with the European Convention. Angela Merkel is trying to give an impulse to the European Constitution but the road towards a political integration is opposed by newcomers (Poland and Czech Republic) and oldcomers (UK). The way out is not the suggested Mini-Treaty without common European flag and hymn, without the Fundamental rights' charter and without calling for a European citizens' intervention.
